2015 Summer Convention

Travel Options:

In addition to the beautiful drive along the Colorado River and into the Rockies to reach Snowmass Village, the California Zephyr Amtrak train stops in Glenwood Springs (39 miles away) and United flies to Aspen (7 miles).

With the roundtrip train option you can travel to and from Snowmass for as little as $134 per person ($122 with AAA). There is also a more convenient drive-ride option for about the same cost for four people.

Enjoy discussions about natural and cultural heritage care of the National Park Service between Glenwood Springs and Grand Junction.

Rent a four-day, one-way, standard car for $256 and drive to Snowmass.* Return the car in Glenwood Springs to catch the 1:53 p.m. train on Saturday or Sunday and arrive in Salt Lake City at 11:05 p.m.** Enterprise will pick you up to begin your rental, and drop you off at the Amtrak station in Glenwood Springs at no charge.

California Zephyr prices begin at $60 for a one-way coach ticket (10% discount with AAA; 15% for seniors 62+; $30 for up to two children aged 2-12 per adult). ***

With gas and train fare, this option will cost $209 per person with two people, $159 with three, and $135 with four ($203, $153 and $128 with AAA).

*Search for Enterprise at http://www.beneplace.com/utahbar. If you time-out while reserving your car, start again at the Utah State Bar Group Benefits page to get the member rate. If you are an Enterprise Plus member, you can log in when you get to the reservation page. **On Saturday, you should arrive in time for the 11:11 or 11:31 p.m. Blue Line TRAX at the northeast corner of the Salt Lake Central station, just east of where the Zephyr stops. This is the last TRAX and only goes to the Central Point at 21st South; if Amtrak is early, you could catch the 10:51 p.m. Blue Line to Draper Town Center with Red Line connections to the U Stadium. Connections to Ogden via FrontRunner are also available at 10:50 and 11:50 p.m.

*** Visit http://tickets.amtrak.com.  If you have AAA, use the "Other Discounts" tab and in the Passenger #1, etc. dropdown box select “AAA Adult” (must travel with card).  Select “AAA Child…” for children.  You will need your AAA card for reservation and travel.  Or select “Senior.”  For all, the station codes are GSC and SLC; after selecting Find Trains, then price (and upper level for the best view and comfort), select “Add to Cart.”

The train departs Salt Lake City at 3:30 a.m., and arrives in Glenwood Springs at 12:10 p.m. The return train departs at 1:53 p.m., and arrives at 11:05 p.m. Prices begin at $120 for a round-trip coach ticket ($60 for children); see details above.
